Peru’s HTA Agency reports in Prismaccess & Evalumade platforms

Prioritis is pleased to announce the addition of another HTA agency to our Prismaccess/Evalumade database: the Institute for the Evaluation of Health Technologies and Health Research of Peru.

Peru allocates 5.4% of its GDP to the health sector, a figure significantly lower than its neighbours Colombia, Brazil or Argentina, which allocate between 7 and 9% of GDP to Health.

The health system of Peru is comprised of services provided by the State, at different levels of the government: national, provincial and district; for the worker health system, EsSalud and for private health care services. Through the SIS, the Government offers health services to the uninsured population in exchange for payment of a fee that can be variable. EsSalud depends on the Ministry of Labour and is where workers, national or foreign, are affiliated at the time of starting a formal employment relationship with an employer. EsSalud and the Integral Health Insurance (SIS) serve 11 million and 17 million insured people, respectively

In a country like Peru, where resources from the health sector are scarce, no institution carried out evaluations of health technologies before the creation of the Institute for the Evaluation of Health Technologies and Health Research (IETSI).

The IETS was born with the vision of being a leading institution in the development and management of scientific evidence at national and regional level, to inform health decision making and optimize the use of resources, to achieve and extend services of quality health for Peruvians, through Social Security. Therefore, the Institute for the Evaluation of Health Technologies and Health Research has the mission to generate scientific, economic and social evidence.

Since 2015, IETS has published Health Technology Assessment Reports and is increasingly providing more evidence and evaluation in health technologies, positioning Peru as a regional reference in transparency in health technologies evaluation. This organization is enabling the redirection of the economic resources towards the priority areas, which without a doubt is contributing to a better quality of life to the Peruvians.
